OLES DUO is a natural development of virtuoso improvised music. Not only this project is unique, but it also very well composed and carefully prepared. Even if the group is small, the music is full, rich and original.

“Each piece is not limited to the exploration of one melody or theme, it contains a wealth of ideas, the opening of new possibilities, going beyond predictability, creating new angles and approaches as you move along. There are moments that I was wondering whether the drums were overdubbed, which is not the case”.

Oles Duo’s music is concentrated on improvisation, but it bases on several compositions with clear structure and form. Duo’s music is hard to classificate because it is something in-between. You can hear here jazz infuations, a new music conceptions, or even ethno reminiscentions. All these elements sound very homegenic and coherent and absolutely non-eclectic. You can find in this music a whole spectrum of sound - from playing arco shy and unusual voices to highly energetic runnig solos.

“It's no surprise to see that six of the ten tracks are credited to the bassist, though three stem from the drummer, with one joint effort. Both are skilled players with chops to spare, with Marcin particularly adept with his bow, but they perform without ostentatious technique. Consequently the program stands on the strengths of the compositions and the ensuing improvisations.”.
