OLES Brothers & Theo Jörgensamnn
Theo Jorgensmann - clarinet
Marcin Oles - double bass
Bartłomiej Brat Oles - drums
“German clarinetist Theo Jörgensmann issued two CDs before with the Polish Oles brothers, "Minitatures" and "Direction", both of which are excellent. To up the ante, the trio now released two live CDs, with some of the material coming from these studio recordings, and they are as good, no less could be expected from them”.
The trio OLES/JORGENSMANN/OLES has began to play in 2003 and frequently performs across the Europe. Members of the group are the foremost musicians in their countries. The first recording titled Miniatures was widely appreciated by critics and audiance in Poland and elsewhere.
"Miniatures" is a beautiful and very tasty album. Doubtless it's something more, then improvised music. Many common has with contemporary music. There's in this music outsized air and space. Jorgensmann Clarinet has a exellent sound , brothers play very careful and it is proper to advice. Section of Oles brothers is probably sensation on world scales. They compose it and they invite musicians they let's add known - more and more famous - for practice this music -, but not are invited for practice of music of soloist.
Diapazon, 2003
The second album of the trio titled Directions was voted „The best jazz album of 2005” by the users of Diapazonpl, an independent web site for jazz and improvised music. That album was a continuation and development of ideas of the group.
The trio performed on many tours and on many fesivals in Poland, Germany, Finland, Portugal, France, Sweden, Belgium and many others.
The latest album titled Alchemia was edited by the prestigious record label Hat Hut Records in 2008. I presents the same project as an album released a year earlier - Live in Poznan. Both of these albums were recorded in a short time period and both show a wide possibilities of the group.
„The live recording realized together with an outstanding clarinettist Theo Jörgensamnn is a masterpiece of contemporary jazz and demonstration of the brothers’ strenght. Result – an album which is difficult to free onself from.
International level. My compliments”
Newsweek, 17.02.2008
German clarinetist Theo Jörgensmann belongs to most influential jazz clarinettist ever and one of the most advanced modern free improvisers on his instrument, combining moody chamber jazz with hints of a modal hard bop sensibility. Besides of his own groups he has performed with John Carter, Perry Robinson, Barre Phillips, Lee Konitz, Charlie Mariano and many others. Since
ten years he records for prestigious Hat Hut Records and for Fenommedia with Oles brothers
"Jörgensmann's music is soft, ornamental, supple, at moments almost melliflous, yet always challenging,
sometimes strict, full of surprising turns and system shifts."
